Tall and Average

We couldn’t be happier. Jacob had his 4 month check-up on Monday and we learned that:

Jacob is 25 inches long, which is in the 75th percentile.
Jacob weights 14 lb 2 oz, which is in the 50th percentile.
Jacob’s head circumference is 42 cm, which is in the 50th percentile.

By all accounts, Jacob is healthy and thriving!

We are close to being fully healthy again, and we are looking forward to getting more sleep. Jacob went from having a cold (same one Thomas had) to pink eye to double ear infection to 4 month immunizations (and the accompanying fever). Poor guy was a champion through it all, and is back to his smiling, happy ways.

In case anyone is interested in a good read, Thomas recently finished "Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln" by Doris Kearns Goodwin. It focuses on Lincoln's ability to manage and get the best out of not only his cabinet (assembled from Republican rivals) but also his Civil War generals, other politicians and the American people. Thomas' favorite quote from the book:

"Why was Lincoln so great that he overshadows all other national heroes? He really was not a great general like Napoleon or Washington; he was not such a skilful [sic] statesman as Gladstone or Frederick the Great; but his supremacy expresses itself altogether in his peculiar moral power and in the greatness of his character. ... His genius is still too strong and too powerful for the common understanding, just as the sun is too hot when its light beams directly on us." (quoted from Leo Tolstoy)
